Animal welfare is our priority

Here's how we work towards that

The Sanctuary

The GPRS team has worked tirelessly for several years to create a home for senior dogs. At any one time, we have around 70 animals. Approximately 50 dogs stay with us permanently, and the rest are either recovering from surgery or under treatment. A sprawling 1,500 square metres, the sanctuary has designated areas for surgery and recovery, treatment, isolation, and permanent stay, ensuring that both temporary and permanent residents have adequate space to heal and live in comfort.
Our resident seniors range from 8 to 14 years old.
These are dogs that have been lost, abandoned or severely injured, and are unable to navigate life in the streets alone, most requiring long-term care. We call them our Golden Oldies or ‘Goldies’ for short. Rescued, cared for, and cherished, these seniors finally get to live their golden years in a safe and loving environment.

quality care

Many of our seniors live in a separate area, away from the younger dogs since they need a peaceful environment, a set routine, and daily monitoring. Some of our young-at-heart seniors live in mixed age groups which helps keep them active. They enjoy a bi-monthly “spa” day, where nails are trimmed, ears and paws are checked, and any evaluation needed can be identified. Our sanctuary veterinarian Dr. Anjali Noronha, conducts a detailed medical round weekly, examining each dog to ensure every one of them is healthy and happy.

no cages

Here, dogs live in harmonious groups, mimicking small packs, which allows them to play together and foster camaraderie. Cages are reserved for surgery cases, while while most treatment animals recuperate in our spacious runs.

Spay/Neuter Operation

GPRS conducts scheduled surgical procedures on a monthly basis, where we operate up to 8 dogs and cats for animal birth control (ABC). In addition, we perform specialized surgeries, such as tumour removal or amputations.

Our spay/neuter programme is unique in Goa. We charge one inclusive price that covers transportation, surgery, recovery, and vaccination. The pet owner is not required to medicate or transport the animal and the pet usually stays on average 4 days until fully recovered. Our comprehensive approach ensures a stress-free experience, prioritizing the pet’s well-being at every step.

Medical Treatment

We offer affordable short-term medical care for pets and sponsored street dogs. Animals requiring medical treatment usually come in with fractures, hair problems, or more serious illnesses. Admitted cases are referred by our veterinarian and are given as long as needed to fully recover, often months. We provide excellent individualized treatment with a full-time medical assistant on site providing the recommended veterinary treatment plan for each case.
